Bucky didn't flinch when he felt Sarah's hand on his shoulder. A very small change to how he used to behave. Touch was more welcome by those he trusted. He turned his head, gave her a small smile, and said, "Thanks."
But his gaze went back to Natasha. That was a bullshit answer if he ever heard oneāand he had, many times, over many, many stupid lies that Steve felt he was confident enough to deliver. While Steve didn't have a bone in his body that let him easily deceive anyone around him, he did give it his all when it came to Bucky. Something about wanting to prove to him that he could do it, he could enlist, get into the war, make a difference, stop it.
